Trek to Umerkhind on 29 Nov 2009

Hi friends,
I've arranged a trekking expedition to Umerkhind, in Khadala region.
Date: 29 Nov 2009 (Sunday)
Fees of the trek : NIL
Difficulty Rating: Medium-hard
Time: 8:00 a.m.
Meeting Point: Shani temple, Khandala (near Khandala Lake)


The participant will have to reach Khandala by 8:00 to 8:30 a.m.
There is no fees for the trek. Therefore participants will need to arrange for their own transport, breakfast, tea and lunch.
This being the month of November, the climate will be pleasant, yet strong Sun is expected during afternoon, hence participants should wear cap/hat or some protection from sun. As per the changed weather condition there might be rain, so participants are requested to get protective gears for rain too. Participants should dress comfortably, avoid wearing jeans, suggested clothes are cotton pants, track suits, jogging suits, half pants or three-fourths, t-shirts.
Also carry 2-3 litre of water as there is no water supply at that place. Use electral/glucose-d/ tang to revitalize your self.
Apart from this you can get biscuits, dry fruits, chocolates, chikkis to munch on the way.


Few rules that need to be followed are:

1. The Leader's decision will be final & binding on all members. No Arguments will be entertained.
2. Smoking will not be permitted. Smokers please do not register, if you can not control your urge for one day.
3. Alcohol will strictly be not permitted on the event. Anyone found in possession of the same or consuming it will be expelled from the activity.
4. It is important for all participants to stay together in the group, in the event of any deviation by the participant without the consent of the leader, he/she/they will be considered as 'Independent/s' & will no longer be considered as a part of the group.
{Deviation: E.g.: Participant decides to go sightseeing on his own, decides to stray away from the group, decides to trek on route other than instructed by Leader, etc}
5. In the event of any Mishap, Leaders will not be responsible.
6. Each member will be responsible for his/her own safety & baggage.
7. Each member MUST get his own lunch (vegetarian), snacks, & eatables (vegetarian).
8. Avoid wearing Gold or other ornaments.
9. Do not tease, argue, ask stupid questions, play prank on any villager, specially women, at the place of trek. If you do so and get beaten-up by the villagers we will not interfere nor take responsibility for it.
10. The route of the trek is through jungle. It is necessary for all to be together. If any one deviates and gets lost in the jungle we will not be responsible.
11. Photography not allowed

Please remember trekking is not a picnic, its an adventure, hence do not take instructions casually, defying them may prove harmful.

Trek Schedule

Please have your breakfast/tea before u come to the meeting point.
8:00 to 8:30 a.m. -- Meeting at Shani Madir, Khandala (near Khadala Lake) - Registration of new members.
Start trek by 8:30 a.m. (we won't wait after this time.)
Trek Route (25 km) - Khandala - Kurwande village (Duke's Nose) - Ambenali ghat - Chavani village - Umberkhind - Shemadi village - End of the Trek.
After this participants can reach Khopoli by ST bus, 6 seater, rickshaw, or what ever mode of transport available. From there they can decide to
1) Board a bus to Pune/Mumbai
2) Board a bus till Lonavala and then Pune by train.
3) Go to Karjat and board a train to Pune/Mumbai

We must complete this trek in 5 hr. We must reach Umerkhind by 2:00 p.m. We might need to jog or run to finish the trek in given time. Hence participants please check ur stamina before u come for the trek.
Because we need to complete this trek in a specific time span, photography is not allowed on this trek. Please do not bring ur cameras for the trek.

Train schedule
Sinhagad express (6:00 a.m.) reaches Khandala by 7:30 a.m.
Indrayani (from Mumbai) reaches Khandala by 8:00 a.m.

Many trekker find it difficult to bring lunch as they are unable to cook early in the morning. Here are few quick tips for things you can get for lunch. You can get Bread &  Butter/Jam. There is ready-to-eat food of various brands like MTR, Kohinoor, etc. and you can get this packet for just Rs. 35. It is readily available in retail shops like Food Bazar, Spencer, Foodland, Reliance Fresh, More. You can also bring ready made parathas or theplas (you can get them at above mentioned store or any sweet shop or Hot Chips store). Or You can cook Pulav in 15 min using a pressure cooker.
